FGLL looks to foster the development of players by providing a development league that plays at a highly proficient and skilled level. Our aim is to keep games friendly while acknowledging competition. We aim to provide an outlet for players that is not part of the pressure-filled, win-at-all-cost environment often found in youth sports. To accomplish this, Town Programs agree to the following:
Provide balanced teams in an age group in an effort to compete successfully against teams from other towns.
The Home team will keep score for the umpire. If a 4 (or more) goal differential is reached, the trailing team can elect to receive a free position at midfield instead of a draw.
The score will not be posted, broadcasted or announced in any way – either during the game or afterwards. Players usually know if they are winning or losing and should learn to do both with respect.
Teams should adjust their play if the game is lopsided (e.g. more passes before shooting, work on non-dominant hand, move players to positions they are less comfortable with). Ideally, these adjustments are made during a time-out or at half-time and therefore transparent to the trailing team.
There are no standings kept, no league championship or playoffs.
